One in five Americans has a disability (U.S. Census Bureau). Fifty-three percent of American adults has limited reading skills. (OECD 2012 census). Nine percent of the U.S. population ages 5 and older -- more than 25 million people -- are Limited English Proficient (LEP), meaning they speak English less than “very well.” (U.S. Census Bureau 2015 ACS). With these facts in mind, we need to change the way we communicate with our readers/clients. This session will share easy-to-use tools to communicate more effectively with all clients. The panel will demonstrate how to follow accessible design principles that allow everyone to access the information they need to participate equally. The panel will share tips about making information easier to see and read, reveal their free set of universal legal icons and provide a tutorial on how to make Word documents and PDFs Section 508 compliant. During the session, the panel will demonstrate how to turn a Legal Form PDF into an interactive, ADA-compliant PDF ready to submit for e-filing! Panelists will also share free Accessibility Evaluation tools.
