LSC's 2019 Innovations in Technology Conference

In a recent American Bar Association article by Jason Tashea titled, "Legal Tech has a Diversity Problem," the author discusses how a lack of inclusion in hiring, retention, design, and the development of legal technology may lead down a path of design bias. This interactive session will examine the impact of diversity and inclusion and explore how implicit bias may manifest in the hiring and retention of legal advocates and in the design and development of legal technology. Panelists will address how to build a sustainable approach to overcome a lack of inclusion and how to keep this conversation going. Strategies will include understanding how to recognize one’s individual biases and how to interrupt those biases in the design and development phases of the legal technology setting and beyond. Attendees will leave with a framework for how to have difficult dialogues and learn multiple approaches to building their own community of support.
