Kelly Shaw-Sutherland, MPA, is the Director of Research and Evaluation at Legal Aid of Nebraska where she leads all internal and external research and evaluation efforts. As a trained social science researcher and evaluator, she has spent over the past 13 years working collaboratively with people across multiple disciplines and professional backgrounds on a wide array of research and evaluation endeavors. Prior to coming to Legal Aid, Shaw-Sutherland worked as a policy analyst for almost 10 years at the University of Nebraska Medical Center focused on projects related to rural health policy and program evaluations of public health programs and agencies. Over the past three years she has used her collective skillset of program planning design and evaluation, strategic planning and management, database design and data collection, and quantitative and qualitative data analyses to build more efficient and effective processes and systems across her current organization. She is also one of the co-founders of the Evaluation Feedback Project, a project designed to connect Legal Aid organizations with 1-3 evaluators from within and outside of the Legal Aid community to provide valuable feedback on evaluation tools (e.g. surveys, evaluation plans, interview tools, evaluation designs, etc.). Her goal is to bring her knowledge and skills to the broader legal aid community to help organizations in the community grow knowledge and capacity to better understand, utilize results, and conduct their own evaluation efforts.
